Sahra Maira
BIOGRAPHY
Sahra Maira is a classically trained dancer and has been dancing professionally for 22 years. She received her training at Kirov Academy in Washington, D.C. and upon graduation joined Universal Ballet Company in Seoul, South Korea. While there she danced in the corps for Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadere, Sleeping Beauty.
She joined Hungarian National Ballet as a demi-soloist. Some roles she danced include, Claudia in Sergei Laszlo’s Spartacus, Louisa in Kenneth McMillan’s Mayerling, Serenade and Who Cares? by George Balanchine. Seeking a more diversified repertoire she joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
This is her 13th season with the company and she is noted for her roles in Jiri Kylian’s Kaguyahime, Green Fairy in Mats Ek’s Sleeping Beauty, The Girl in Stephan Thoss’ Searching for Home, Persephone in Stijn Celis’ Orpheus, Miss Bolton in Cathy Marston’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover among other roles.
She is a dancer of great talent and passion but what drives her to continue is the search and research of movement to convey genuine emotion through steps.
