Theatrical Improvisation Workshop - Time to Explore Movement and Our Presence Here
"Why are we actor-dancers? Well, we are actor-dancers because we do not get used to living in the body imposed on us, in the sex imposed on us. Every actor-dancer's body is a threat to be taken seriously, to the order imposed on the body, to the sexualized state; and if we find ourselves one day in theater or dance, it's because there is something we could not bear. In every actor-dancer, there is, wanting to speak, something like a new body. Another economy of the body that advances, that pushes away the old one imposed." - Valère Novarina.
Hello!
I was born on March 15, 1958. I am an actor, director, and dancer. I danced with the Jo Lechay Company in 1982 and with La La La Human Steps from 1984 to 1989. A practitioner of "breathwork" (Holotropic breathing), Qi Gong, Snowshoeing, Alpine Skiing, for a long time, I have been passionate about everything related to the human body.
I am not telling you anything new if I say that the cultural world, especially the Dance sector, is going through difficult times in terms of financial support from our governments, and that very serious tensions of all kinds are crossing our world. For this workshop, I invite you and propose to dive into pure improvisation, free from any thought of aesthetic or artistic results. For the sheer pleasure of opening surprising inner and outer spaces. To do so, I will choose stimulating music of all kinds. From Beethoven's 5th to Nakibembe Embaire Group, Fatman Scoop, bird songs, silence, noises, interviews with fascinating men and women, etc... the program includes an hour and a half of improvisation per day.
Sharing and discussions are also planned.
I hope to see you there!
Marc Béland.
