Workshop - Corps Politique
Faso danse théâtre is committed to the emergence of a powerful contemporary dance, rooted in emotion, but always carrying reflection and hope.
For the company, dance is a commitment, an urgency and a necessity. It is the basis of all of Serge Aimé Coulibaly's work. In the creations as in the workshops.
In this workshop, the company will seek to develop an original creativity with the participants, by questioning the power of a vocabulary that makes sense and their responsibility as an artist. Along the way, there will be words that dance when they cannot be pronounced, when they choke deep in the throat. Words that are freed and accompany the body in a revolt of hope. An energy of life, of human encounters, and also of falls will be part of the research, but to always find verticality more surely. Together with the participants, we will approach the political body in the company's creations.
Serge Aimé Coulibaly
Serge Aimé Coulibaly (1972) is a dancer-choreographer from Burkina Faso. Since 2001, he has lived in Brussels and worked in Europe and around the world. His African culture is the source of his inspiration and with his art, he wants to create a powerful contemporary dance that starts from feeling but also carries reflection and hope. The power of his expressiveness makes his work universal and understandable on all continents. Since the creation of his dance company Faso Danse Théâtre in 2002, Serge Aimé has worked on complex themes and tries to give a real positive impulse to the younger generations. From the beginning of his career, he has been invited to different stages, festivals around the world with his shows C LA VIE (2023), Fitry (2021), Wakatt (2020), Kirina (2018), Kalakuta Republik (2017), Nuit Blanche à Ouagadougou (2014), Fadjiri (2013), Khokuma 7° Sud (2011), Babemba (2008), Solitude d'un Homme Intègre (2007), A Benguer (2006), ET Demain…(2004), Minimini (2002). He also choreographs pieces with amateur dancers in response to his need to share and devote himself to his fellow citizens.
Through his open outlook on the world in all its diversity, his questioning but strongly constructive attitude and his desire to move forward, Serge Aimé has been able to collaborate with different artists from the beginning of his career. He regularly participates in international creations, as a performer or choreographer. He has already worked with Marrukegu Company in Australia as a choreographer (Miranda 2019, Le Dernier Appel 2018, Cut the Sky, 2014 and Burning Daylight, 2009), with Farid Berki (Double Jeu, ss2013), with Kalpana Raghuraman (I lost my English, 2008) and as a performer with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (Tempus Fugit, 2004) and Alain Platel C(ho)eurs 2012, Wolf 2003.
Because, and through his own artistic vision and commitment, he feels the need to experiment and reflect in his own place, he founded Ankata in Bobo Dioulasso (Burkina Faso), an international laboratory for research and production of the performing arts. Ankata is open to all and has become a crossroads between different continents, different disciplines, different types of people who are trying together to invent a new future.
Sayouba Sigué
After a childhood spent in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) where he was born in 1981, Sayouba Sigué came to Burkina Faso for his secondary studies and integrated into the cultural and artistic scene of Ouagadougou. He was trained in traditional and contemporary dance. Discovered in 2001 by the young Burkinabe choreographer Souleymane Porgo, he joined his company (Téguérer) and launched into contemporary and Afro-contemporary dance. He also benefited from the training of several other choreographers of different styles and origins. This is how dance went from an extracurricular activity to a passion that he gradually chose as a profession. He has participated in numerous productions with the great names of African dance such as Irène Tassembédo (in Souf es, Carmen Falinga Awa and Le sacre du tempo), Serge Aimé Coulibaly (in A Benguer, Babemba, Nuit Blanche à Ouagadougou and Kalakuta Republik, WAKATT) and Kathrin Wehlisch (Schiff der Traüme). He is also co-director of the DIALAW FESTIVAL in Senegal.
