Workshop - The paths of the senses: the art of embodying, listening, and letting resonate

A space to trace the invisible routes of gesture, those that take shape within before appearing in movement. The body is approached as a living territory, where each sensation becomes a landmark and each vibration, a direction. This workshop offers an exploration of the dancer’s presence through three closely interconnected planes: physical, affective, and cognitive.

On the physical level, dancers move through rigorous and demanding materials,
alternating between precise composition and guided improvisation. The body becomes a site for experimenting with states, where one learns to inhabit movement
rather than to produce it.

On the affective level, the work develops a refined sensitivity to oneself, to others, to space, and to music. Empathy is approached as a concrete practice the ability to enter into relationship, to feel, and to allow states to emerge and circulate without forcing or representing them. This listening opens access to zones of fragility as well as power, of softness as well as intensity.

On the cognitive level, attention is directed toward the inner experience in motion: the shifting of attention, the internal discourse, and the impact of thoughts on presence. The work aims to recognize these mechanisms and to anchor supportive states and thoughts, so that presence becomes a resource.

These explorations take shape through excerpts from works and guided improvisation sequences, combining physical rigor with sensitive listening. Moments of presentation are offered as spaces for observing the inner mechanisms activated by being seen. Les voies du sensible emphasizes the difference between demonstrating and feeling, between showing a state and living it. It invites dance to emerge from within.

Esther Rousseau-Morin

A graduate of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal in 2007, Esther Rousseau-Morin has since developed a rich and sensitive career within the Quebec choreographic scene. She lends her movement and presence to numerous projects, collaborating in particular with Le Carré des Lombes, Bouge de Là, Maribé – sors de ce corps, Lorganisme (Caroline Laurin-Beaucage), Le Fils d’Adrien Danse, Montréal Danse, Créations Estelle Clareton, Trois Tristes Tigres, Animals of Distinction, and Alan Lake Factori(e). Alongside her career as a performer, she completed training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), deepening her reflection on presence, listening, and states of consciousness in motion, both in her artistic and pedagogical practices. Deeply committed to transmission, she teaches in professional training programs, where she shares both her technical expertise and her sensitive approach to movement. She also transmits the repertoire of works in which she has performed, thereby enriching the dialogue between stage and pedagogy. For several years, she also served as an assistant in partner classes led by Sylvain Lafortune, with whom she co-created L’un L’autre, presented at Danse Danse in 2018. A rigorous performer and a dedicated pedagogue, Esther continues a practice in which physicality, precision, and listening lie at the heart of her artistic language.
