Take a full body deep dive into the realm of LajaMartin style dance theater. Through non-linear storytelling, unlock the portals between the real world and the surreal. Access your physical prowess, uncover new ways of moving, deepen your own unique style while exploring the spectrum of theatricality in you as a performer. Through movement research inspired by the theme of joy, what comes to light in the presence and absence of joy?

 

Utilizing movement material in various configurations, partnering, lifts as well theatricality through monologues, dialogue, lip syncing, actual singing and more - the realm of possibilities are endless and open to your individual curiosity as we seek transformation. This is a collaborative process that paves the way towards the unknown as we embark together on a discovery of how exactly this piece will come to life.

Laja Field

Laja Field (she/her) is an international creator, teacher and performer originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. Through her artistic platform, co-founded with partner Martin Durov in 2017, LajaMartin Physical Dance Theater is an epicenter for live performance and dance theater education. Spanning 16 different countries worldwide, LajaMartin have traveled to share their work in a multitude of capacities. 

 

Highlights include; a New York City premiere of “Pinot Noir” for the Curated Series by Gibney Dance Company; touring work to Prisma Festival in Panama as well as the Šibenik Dance Festival in Croatia; teaching all over the U.S and for five consecutive years at the b12 festival in Berlin; choreographing for the inaugural GibneyPRO program in NYC and most recently being  commissioned to create work for Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in Salt Lake City and Project InTandem in Calgary, Canada. Independently, Laja played an integral role in bringing her style of highly physical floor-work to NYC where she was also a founding member and rehearsal director with Vim Vigor. Her professional career began as a member of the Johannes Wieland company at Staatstheater Kassel, Germany where she had the pleasure of working with many incredible colleagues, teachers and guest choreographers. Laja holds a BFA from the University of Utah where she graduated magna cum laude in 2012.
